The Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project is the first pilot REDD+ demonstration project in Zambia. The Project Area of the Lower Zambezi REDD+ Project encompasses approximately 40,000 hectares (100,000 acres) of primary miombo forest directly adjacent to Lower Zambezi National Park (4,092 km sq.).
The Luangwa ecosystem is one of the last great conservation landscapes in Africa. The Luangwa Valley ecosystem harbors globally significant wildlife numbers, including Zambia’s only black rhino population and its most stable elephant population. It is a key component of the Luangwa-Zambezi hydrological system and delivers crucial ecosystem services nationally and internationally.
