The BioCarbon Partners (BCP) Trust is a not-for-profit organization affiliated with BioCarbon Partners (BCP) Limited—a Zambia-based social enterprise that aims to launch and manage large-scale REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation) Projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The role of the BCP Trust is to support BCP Ltd. in its aim to significantly and effectively involve local
community stakeholders in its forest protection efforts, and to, essentially, “make forest protection work for local people.” The BCP Trust operates by cooperating with local community stakeholders to identify local drivers of deforestation, and designing and implementing projects that address them. The BCP Trust aims to reduce the pressures that members of local communities face to engage in activities that contribute to permanent deforestation (such as unsustainable agriculture or charcoal production practices), by partnering with local community stakeholders to launch projects that provide alternatives to deforestation and improve livelihoods.
Projects launched by the BCP Trust are thereby intended to sustainably address the root causes of deforestation in and near to BCP’s REDD+ Projects.
As a not-for-profit organization that aspires to achieve community benefits and forest protection, the BCP Trust seeks additional funding—in the form of grants and donations—for community-based projects attached to BCP’s REDD+ Projects.
